π Fall Wellness Guide:
We all love fall; literally, fall was voted a favorite among the staff. We are also aware of all the other feelings that come up around this season, like sadness, loneliness, grief, anxiety, and doubt. Some may even struggle with SAD (seasonal affective disorder). The thoughts and feelings may be tough, but they are manageable.
Listening to your body is going to be so important this time of the year. The ember months (September, October, November, December) encourage us to slow downβ¦so yaβll lets slow down. When we don't fill up our own cup, we end up sad, resentful, and burnt out. Here are some ways to make the βember months easier.
Enjoy the Warmth:
Whether itβs taking a bath, making a soup, pulling out your favorite sweaters, or having a warm beverage, getting cozy is a great way to regulate your mood. The activity will likely have you slowing down, and it's a small way to practice self-care.
Rest:
Make sure you are prioritizing sleep; a shorter day will make you feel sleepy and throw off your sleep schedule, so prioritize consistent sleep and wake times. It doesn't have to be perfect; it just has to make sense for you and your lifestyle. Winding down earlier also allows you to wake up early and catch the sun, which is very important since we get so little vitamin D during the colder months.
Slow Down:
Try making a recipe that takes time and attention, or incorporate a wellness ritual like meditation or journaling. Slowing down is hard for us all, but doing something even small, like trying a new hobby like coloring or crocheting, is good for lowering cortisol and improving mood.
Lean Into the Season:
Fall is nostoglica is some way, so it's totally acceptable to grab a pumpkin spice latte and watch a scary movie. If you're able, engage in some activities during the season like going on a fall walk, making a recipe together, or going apple picking; doing these activities increases your mood, especially if it's with a friend!
